68: What I learned from writing and publishing “Taking Charge of your Career”
So this month it's me in the spotlight!
2016 was a tumultuous and extraordinary year. But for me and my co-author Camilla, a huge chunk of it was taken up with writing "Taking Charge of Your Career", a major update to our 2011 book "If not now, when? How to take charge of your career".
First time round the book was published by A & C Black. This time round we were in the hands of Bloomsbury (who bought A&C Black a few years ago).
We are incredibly proud of the end result. It was hard work getting it done, but the new case studies and resources make what we believe is a unique book including both exercises and inspiration. We really hope it's a useful companion for the new world of work. As now more than ever before we all have to take charge of our career (including career coaches!).
In this episode I talk about:
- Why we wrote the book
- How we got it published by Bloomsbury
- My tips for getting the writing done
- The benefits of working with a co-author
- My favourite case studies form the book, and the exercises that I think are the most useful
- My advice to aspiring non-fiction writers
