Case Study

Online careers course for Emlyon Business School

The careers team at Emlyon Business School, which is responsible for hundreds of Masters and MBA students, was spending too much of its time getting students to a foundational level of career thinking. This meant they had less time to spend on higher-value career coaching work, such as individual job search strategy, feedback on LinkedIn profiles, mock interviews and critiquing applications. Emylon’s careers team engaged The Career Farm to help get students to a foundational level of career thinking before they booked a session, so they could maximise the value of their time together, and reach more students.

How we helped

We integrated a customised version of our MBA Maximiser and Masters Maximiser online courses into the Emlyon career programme. The courses enable students to work through the core career thinking they need to do, online and in their own time. They help students clarify what they want and what they can offer, and guide them through the basics of networking and competency-based interviews. We used a single sign-on solution so students could easily access the courses from within the Emlyon Learning Management System, making it quick and simple for busy students. We also translated the Maximiser into French to make it accessible to more of Emlyon’s student community (leading to a 25% increase in usage).

The result

Integrating MBA Maximiser and Masters Maximiser into Emlyon’s career programme has freed up the careers team and internal career coaches to deliver higher-value, individual career support to more of their students.

More than 6,000 students have completed the course so far, with a 95% rating of “useful” or “very useful”.

“Working with The Career Farm has allowed our students to get clarity on their career and gather the evidence for interviews. This means they are more convincing, helping them to stand out in a competitive market. All our students complete the Maximiser programme (also available in French). This pre-work means the time students spend with our internal career coaches is much more efficient.”
